Yard of the Month Winner July 2025

Congratulations to Ms. Rafferty, of the 2800 block of Chimneystone Circle. Her yard was chosen as the winner for July Yard of the Month.

Ms. Rafferty is a retired educator and has been a resident of the Chimneystone community for 33 years, and like our other Yard of the Month alumni, gardening is her passion.

Ms. Rafferty’s beautiful yard is a well-maintained and manicured, flowing landscape containing a variety of flowering pollinator plants that attract bees and butterflies alike. As we toured her yard, we were surprised to discover an enchanting hidden fairy world behind the plants in her garden. From the street, you would never imagine this little hidden secret. When asked what the draw was to the fairies, she shared, “I suppose it appeals to the little girl in me to have them there.” She said that it started with a gift of a small swing from a friend and has grown over the years. When we asked what drove her passion for gardening, she shared that it brought her peace and happiness, and it is evident in the care she gives to her yard.

The love and attention that she gives to her front yard also transitions to her backyard. It is a welcoming place with seating in areas to enjoy the peaceful surroundings when the weather allows. It is always a special treat when a winner wants to share their backyard with us, and we in turn have been able to share with you.

As we were wrapping up photos, we were so fortunate to have the opportunity to see and photograph a monarch butterfly stopping by to partake of the milkweed she has in her garden. It only added to the whimsical already present during our visit.

We thank Ms. Rafferty and all the 2025 winners for their continued inspiration and contributions, and as always, we hope it inspires the community year-round.
